Congratulations! You have received a Shared Online Project Initiative (SOPI) grant or funding from eCampusOntario’s Virtual Learning Strategy (VLS) and will be releasing your project under a Creative Commons licence. But what does that entail? What happens to your intellectual property? Can you use resources from the Library’s collections for your project? Can you incorporate third-party content protected by copyright and does fair dealing apply? How can you combine content published under different licences? This webinar will provide answers to these questions and more to ensure that your project is open and reusable while respecting copyright. Partners from other universities are welcome to attend!

This webinar will outline the dos and don’ts of using copyrighted-protected materials in your courses, whether they are in person or online, synchronous or asynchronous. What can be added legally to Virtual Campus? Can you show a film via Zoom? We will examine copyright exceptions for educational purposes, the use of multimedia content, open access publications and open educational resources, and how to take advantage of the Library’s collections through its course reserve service.
