The University of Ottawa will launch its first MOOC in 2017!
Recognizing the popularity of Massive Online Open Courses (MOOC) and the role they play in the democratization of knowledge and the promotion of academic expertise, the University of Ottawa will soon launch its first MOOC. This pilot will put in place the necessary structures and resources to develop quality MOOCs (in both official languages), to evaluate the technical challenges and production costs associated with this type of large-scale projects.
The course that has been chosen for this first MOOC is BIO 1700 – L’animal humain, designed by Professor François Chapleau Ph.D., from the Department of Biology of the Faculty of Science. As described by Professor Chapleau: “This course is designed to offer a vision that goes beyond the human anatomy or physiology descriptive. Students will discover the human race in all its glory, as well as in all its vulnerability and contradictions. The human is indeed a complex living being with a developed culture. However, in this course, students will view the human being as an animal that carries the obvious and irrefutable evidence of a rich and extraordinary evolutionary history that dates back to millions or even billions of years.”
This MOOC will be available via the France Université Numérique (FUN) platform, it will only be offered in French. Stay tuned for more details!
